Sustainability
At Eton Porny First School, we believe that everyone can make a difference to our environment. We are committed to helping our children develop a love of nature and an understanding of how their everyday choices can help protect our planet for the future. Our pupils learn about sustainability through their lessons, outdoor learning opportunities and practical environmental projects, encouraging them to become responsible and caring global citizens.
A key part of our sustainability work is our Eco Squad. Children are elected to represent their classmates and take an active role in promoting environmental awareness across the school. The Eco Squad leads projects such as recycling initiatives, reducing waste, caring for our school grounds, supporting wildlife and encouraging sustainable habits throughout the school community. We are proud of the enthusiasm and leadership they show in helping to make our school a greener place. Each year they focus on achieving the Eco Schools Green Flag Award, promoting things such as not dropping litter, school grounds and cutting water consumptions and food waste.
We encourage all children to respect the environment by reducing waste, recycling, saving energy, caring for wildlife and making sustainable choices whenever possible. By working together, our pupils, staff and families can help create a healthier, greener future for everyone.
Our sustainability lead is Mrs. Bergin, who works in partnership with our school community and our academy, SEBMAT, to work towards our yearly sustainability action plan. Our sustainability lead governor is Kerri Hicks.
We have achieved a distinction for The Green Flag Award this year!
